DIWALI (Deepavali) - Festival of Lights




Diwali (also spelled Devali in certain regions) or Deepavali as it is known in Malaysia, popularly known as the “festival of lights,” is primarily a five day Hindu festival which falls between mid-October and mid-November.


For Hindus, Deepavali is one of the most important festivals of the year and is celebrated in families by performing traditional activities together in their homes.


Diwali is certainly the most awaited festival of the year. This is also a time when people don’t mind spending extra and go liberal on their buying spree.


Diwali is an official holiday in India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Mauritius, Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago, Suriname, Malaysia, Singapore and Fiji.


The name "Diwali" or "Divali" is a contraction of deepavali which translates into "row of lamps".


Diwali involves the lighting of small clay lamps filled with oil to signify the triumph of good over evil. These lamps are kept on during the night and one's house is cleaned, both done in order to make the goddess Lakshmi feel welcome.


Firecrackers are burst because it is believed that it drives away evil spirits. During Diwali, all the celebrants wear new clothes and share sweets and snacks with family members and friends.


Mostly, there are some of art which is "rangolis," flowers, lights and earthen "diyas" for the occasion decorated on the floor in many shopping complex that can be seen in Malaysia. The decoration is using rice in different colors to show the beautiful of festival.

But not only for mall, there also can be seen in other places such as KL Sentral, KLCC and many more.
